My name is Lisa D. Cantwell, I am an Australian citizen from Melbourne, by birth and I am currently studying for my Masters Program in English as a global language from the School of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Melbourne. I did my graduate studies from the University of Durham in the United Kingdom and then decided to relocate to Melbourne. Both my parents have been educators and it is from them that I gained an abiding interest in linguistics which I avidly pursue till this day.
My interest in linguistic is indeed endearing all the more since I am fully conversant in six different languages of the world, including French, German, Spanish besides English. I am visiting Professor of Linguistics in several language Universities, in the United Kingdom and also in Australia, and have many published research papers to my credit. Currently I am working on several papers on Australian aborigine dialects which is also a domain which holds great prospects for future research. I have been able to master at least some of the 27 dialects which are currently in vogue among Aboriginal Australians. For this purpose, I have also made several visits to dwellings of Australian tribes in Queensland, Tasmania, and other regions in order to gain first hand data about their living habits and also to build on my current linguistic studies. I have also made video, mobile and notes on deliberations with these tribes and hope to use them when I begin to write my book on “Languages and dialects of Australian Aborigines”
